Guest Post by Kim Askew and Amy Helmes

In honor of William Shakespeare’s birthday (celebrated on April 23), authors Kim Askew and Amy Helmes, have dropped by with a guest blog post to announce a special contest!

Get A “Twisted Lit” Character Named After You!

We reimagined William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” and “Macbeth,” with our “compulsively readable” YA books, Tempestuous and Exposure. Ever since the novels were published a few months ago through Merit Press we’ve encountered a frequent question: Which of Shakespeare’s plays will inspire your next books in the Twisted Lit series?

While we’re currently hard at work putting our own spin on the Bard’s “Romeo and Juliet” we thought we’d look to you, the readers, to help us pick the fourth Shakespeare play that will inspire our next book in the series. Got a hankering for a new spin on “Hamlet?” Love to see “King Lear” get a YA update? Would you make much ado over our take on “Much Ado About Nothing?”

Go to our Facebook page (Facebook.com/Twistedlitnovels) and write on our wall to weigh in on which Shakespeare play you’d like us to revamp next. In doing so, you’ll be entered to have your very own name mentioned in one of our upcoming books (either as a character or some other fun reference). If you’ve always wanted to see your name in print — in a YA novel, no less — now’s your chance! The winner will also receive autographed copies of our first two novels, Tempestuous and Exposure.

We’re looking forward to hearing your suggestions! (And don’t forget to follow us on twitter at @kaskew and @amyhelmes.)

* Winner will not be compensated for use of his or her name, and publication is not guaranteed. Details of plot and character used in connection with the name as it appears in the book are up to the sole discretion of the authors. Contest ends June 1.

Luminaire

Luminaire (Florence Waverley, #2)Luminaire (Florence Waverly, #2)

250 Pages
Published November 28, 2012

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Being the only human in a world of merfolk... isn't easy. Florence Waverley chose to stay in Niemela, but things have gone awry. Secrets have risen and the prince she cares about has pulled away. All the while, dark dreams warn her of a tragedy that only she can stop. But in order to save the merman she loves, Florence will have to enter the Life Path tournament: a brutal test of fear and madness.

The tournament is a rite of passage--a maze where young mermaids and mermen battle to find their purpose. It is also a place where Florence will face grave danger: mermaids with evil magic, tunnels filled with sea fire, and guardians who wish to use her as a pawn in their secret plans. But will Florence be strong enough to survive the tournament... or will she perish inside it?

Everything hangs in the balance: her life, her world, and her love.

I enjoyed returning to this world in the sea. When we left Florence, things were looking good for her, things were falling into place. As this book opens, we realize that's changed.

Florence finds herself thrown back into danger, deception, and adventure as she tries to create her place among the sea folk.

Imaginative, intriguing, and full of fun, if you enjoy stories about merfolk, this is a must read. (Just read the first book first!)

Mighty Meat Head

B. L. Sellers

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

One boy and his extraordinary body part, Humperdink Smitz is a normal preteen, loves the ladies, hates gym, and can't even catch a break with the cool kids. This all changes with one biographical comic in his town's paper, that catapults this comic drawing meat head into the spotlight. Will he get a big head or play it cool as he ventures into popularity and will the girl of his dreams ever give him a passing glance?

This is a fun book written for boys.  The stories are amusing and reminded me of the boys that attended my elementary school.  An entertaining read for kids and a glimpse back in time for the rest of us!

Happily Never After

Happily Never AfterHappily Never After

Published February 6, 2013

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

There's no such thing as happy endings.

Savannah, Georgia is rumored to be the most haunted place in America. Quinn Roberts knows it is. She's felt the presence of spirits her entire life, investigating and photographing them with her best friend. Only none of those encounters ever turned violent, until now. The menacing darkness feeding off her stepmother has promised she won't live to see her eighteenth birthday.

After a chance meeting Quinn reluctantly allows actor Jason Preston into her life, which has complications of its own. She's not used to letting people get close. Falling for him while fighting for her life, and her family's legacy, only complicates things more. Jason shows her exactly what she stands to lose, especially when she's being attacked by the mysterious entity. Each attack is more violent and terrifying than the last.

With Jason's help, she dives into the Roberts' family history, searching for a link between a woman who went missing a hundred and fifty years ago and what's happening now. What they find is a brutal murder and that the ghost doesn't just want to hurt Quinn, it wants revenge.

It wants her life.

I loved this book! It was full of adventure, interesting characters, and ghosts, with a dash of history.

I have to admit, I loved the whole haunted house thing. I've read books where it's overdone, or cheesy, and I was a little worried this would fall in with those books - but it never does.

And it's a Cinderella story! (Who doesn't love that?)

Trying not to ruin this for you, because it's a must read. I was hooked from the first sentence, and even though I saw the ending before it happened, I still loved it.

I'm looking forward to the next book.

Blog Tour for Innovera Yakov: The Journey of a Thousand Eyes

Welcome to the Innovera Yakov Blog Tour!

Innovera Yakov: The Journey of A Thousand EyesInnovera Yakov: The Journey of a Thousand Eyes
by Kia Garriques

Be prepared to immerse your self in a world where falling in love could cost you your life and nothing is as it seems.

Innovera Yakov – The Journey of A Thousand Eyes is the first installment in an action-packed fantasy drama where characters with powers of healing and destruction live, love, compete and disappear without a trace while they are being prepared for the Journey.

What is the Journey? What happens to the ones who do not return? What unspeakable, stomach-churning things can happen to them there?

Even Ayana the Great Healer, Krave ‘The Golden One’ and the powerful Blu Tara are terrified of it.

This is an imaginative story, set in a very unique world.

That said, there were times when I was fairly confused. A large part of the book was spent setting up things for future installments of the story, which is fine, but it seemed to take away from the "here and now" of the plot. The thing I struggled with the most was not having any idea how much time was passing. At one point it was referenced that a large amount of time had passed, yet nothing had given me the impression the action hadn't taken place in a matter of weeks, if not days.

Overall, this was a good read that left me wondering what was coming next.
